First Touch is Key
First touch is key. Without a good first touch you can't master the ball. It's also critically important to never, ever let the ball run past you. It seems counter-intuitive to stop the ball when it's is moving in the desired direction, but the requirement here is control. When it runs past it you are only marginally in control, and we are looking to master control, and enable Possession. Trap it, slow it down, redirect it or shoot it, but do not let the ball run past you. You have not obtained mastery until you have obtained control, and control cannot be had until you have achieved that good first touch.
[This is wildy circular. Talk about how it must land at your feet or be directed to someplace where you can play it.]
